Amaey is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Shah of Burlingame, CA. Amaey was diagnosed with Leukemia when he was 3 years old. His parents felt flustered with having no control over the illness & the side effects of treatment. His mom, Mrs. Shah, noticed that Amaey was the happiest & most peaceful despite having cancer when he was creating art in the hospital therapy room, in the hospital preschool, at home, and at summer camp. Mrs. Shah realized art was truly therapeutic. It allowed him to escape & create a life he liked. After 6 years of battling cancer, Amaey passed away in September 2011, at the age of 9. Mrs. Shah and her artist friends created Kids & Art Foundation to help pediatric cancer patients find happiness & peace. In Mrs. Shah’s own word: “My hope is that Kids & Art will create healing, a sense of peace, and lasting memories for every family touched by pediatric cancer.”
Orange is the color of Kids & Art Foundation. We would like to honor Amaey by naming this color backpack after him.
